Rafael Câmara, a driver enrolled in the Ferrari Driver Academy program, clinched pole position for the tenth round of the 2026 Formula 2 season. In the qualifying session held on Friday morning (the 4th) at the Monza National Autodrome in Italy, the Brazilian driver from Invicta Racing seized the lead on his very first quick lap, posting a time of 1:31.326 that remained unbeaten by his rivals for the rest of the session.
The result marks Câmara’s fifth pole position in ten rounds of the Formula 2 championship, the main feeder series for Formula 1. In addition to starting from the pole in Italy, the driver of car number 1 had already claimed pole positions in Monaco, Barcelona, Silverstone, and Spa-Francorchamps.
“It was a solid pole position on the post-summer break run. I’ll be starting from the front and that’s a good thing. I feel good. Monza always delivers a challenging qualifying, I think. We made a strong lap on the first attempt, which gave us confidence for the second lap. I’m very happy, also for the team with P1 and P2. It’s a good start to the weekend, but that doesn’t mean much right now. We must focus on the right things and on the races,” Rafael Câmara commented shortly after the session.
The pole at Monza is also significant for Câmara’s championship bid. With the two points awarded for the pole, the Brazilian now matches the points tally of the championship’s second-placed driver. Relative to the leader, the gap has been reduced to 20 points.
The F2 schedule includes a Sprint race on Saturday (the 5th), starting at 9:15 a.m., while the main race is set for Sunday, with a lights-out at 4:45 a.m. Sportv, Globoplay, and F1TV will broadcast the races live.
