Peugeot Announces Jakobsen’s Departure Following Monza

November 2, 2026

Peugeot has officially confirmed that this weekend’s 6 Hours of Monza will mark Malthe Jakobsen’s final FIA World Endurance Championship appearance in Peugeot colours.

After months of strong speculation about a move to McLaren’s Hypercar project for the forthcoming season, Peugeot’s statement makes clear that the Dane will depart the squad at the end of the current campaign.

A 23-year-old, Jakobsen has spent two seasons with the French manufacturer and secured the 9X8’s maiden WEC pole at Spa earlier this year, but overall the campaign has been fraught with frustration, with his best finish to date a sixth at Fuji.

Previously, he earned Peugeot a podium at Circuit of The Americas last year and had fulfilled duties as a test and reserve driver before earning a race seat.

Olivier Jansonnie, director of Stellantis Motorsport, stated that Peugeot is proud of Malthe Jakobsen’s achievements with the brand and the progress he has shown during his time with the team. He noted that it has been a privilege to watch him develop as both a driver and a member of the squad, and expressed gratitude for his dedication and contributions while wishing him success in the future. With Monza representing the final WEC round of the season and Jakobsen’s last appearance with Peugeot, the team aims to close this chapter on a positive note.

Jakobsen himself reflected that racing at Monza for the last time with Team Peugeot TotalEnergies is something special after four remarkable years with the outfit. From the rookie test in Bahrain onward, the crew made him feel like part of the family and played a major role in his growth as a person and as a racing driver, developing him from a junior competitor to a full WEC driver. He described this period as an unforgettable chapter, with Le Mans in the top class standing out as a phenomenal memory, and thanked Peugeot Sport while urging everyone to finish the weekend on a high.

McLaren has already named four drivers for the debut of its MCL-HY Hypercar in next year’s WEC, with former Peugeot racer Mikkel Jensen joining Laurens Vanthoor, Alex Lynn and single-seater convert Leonardo Fornaroli.

Nevertheless, Jakobsen has long been connected with one of the seats for 2027.
