MotoGP: Bezzecchi wins in Italy as Aprilia clinches 1-2; Moreira finishes in the top 10

June 2, 2026

Marco Bezzecchi won this Sunday (the 31st) the Italian Grand Prix, the seventh round of the 2026 MotoGP season. The Aprilia rider seized the lead at the Mugello circuit on lap 14 of 23, and from there he began extending his advantage over the rivals, securing his fourth victory in seven races this year.

Second place went to Jorge Martín, who had led the race on the opening lap but had to fight back during the race to complete the Aprilia 1-2. Francesco Bagnaia, who led much of the early part, finished third on the Ducati, followed by Ai Ogura, fourth with the Trackhouse Aprilia. Fabio Di Giannantonio, riding the VR46 Ducati, was fifth.

Pedro Acosta brought KTM to sixth place at the end of the 23 laps, finishing just ahead of Marc Márquez, seventh on the Ducati in the race in which he returned to MotoGP. Raúl Fernández, who won the Sprint on Saturday and made an error in the opening meters, recovered to eighth, with Fermín Aldeguer on the Trackhouse Aprilia in ninth. Diogo Moreira completed the race in tenth after gaining two positions on the final lap.

The next MotoGP round will take place next weekend, with the Hungarian Grand Prix, scheduled at Balaton Park.

Check how the race unfolded

The Mugello race began with Jorge Martín taking the lead in the final metres, while Raúl Fernández, who had won the Sprint on Saturday, went off the track and tumbled down the order. Marco Bezzecchi appeared in second place, while Francesco Bagnaia moved up to third early in the contest.

Early in the first lap, Bezzecchi passed Martín to take the lead. In the race’s second lap, the Spanish rider on the Aprilia made a mistake and dropped to third as Bagnaia overtook him. The Italian on the Ducati then started chasing the race leader, taking the first position by overtaking Bezzecchi on the third lap.

Marc Márquez, in fourth, began to be pressured by Pedro Acosta on the fifth lap. Bagnaia remained under pressure from Bezzecchi on the sixth lap, while Martín began to close in on the battle for the lead. Further back, Márquez and Acosta started trading overtakes, with the reigning champion holding fourth place. Alongside them appeared Fermín Aldeguer, fifth at the start of the seventh lap.

Acosta managed the overtake on Márquez on the seventh lap, while the Spaniard was soon overtaken by Aldeguer as well. In the pits straight, however, the Ducati rider used the slipstream and the Ducati’s greater speed to reclaim fourth place on the eighth lap. Moreira, for his part, was in 11th place.

Bagnaia kept the lead with nine laps to go, and held a half-second gap to Bezzecchi, who could not close in to attempt a pass on the Ducati rider. At that moment, Martín was more than a second behind the battle for the lead. Márquez and Acosta completed the top five.

Moreira dropped further back, falling to 12th on lap 10. A lap later, Álex Rins crashed at the first corner of the Italian circuit, exiting the race. Fernández, in ninth, was riding faster than Bagnaia, the race leader, and aimed to claw his way forward. A lap later, Enea Bastianini fell and was another retirement.

With 14 laps to go, Bezzecchi launched his attack on Bagnaia, taking the lead by overtaking him. The championship leader quickly started to open a gap, while Martín closed in on the Ducati rider to duel for second place. Further back, Ai Ogura appeared in sixth and began pressuring Acosta for fifth.

Martín managed to overtake Bagnaia on the 16th lap, taking second place. By this moment, Bezzecchi held a 1.5-second lead. Acosta found himself overtaken by Márquez, but regained fourth on the 17th lap. The two resumed trading overtakes, but were increasingly pressured by Ogura.

With a slower pace, Márquez was overtaken by Ogura and Fabio Di Giannantonio, dropping to seventh at the start of the 19th lap. With four laps remaining, Ogura passed Acosta to take fourth, and the two touched as they remained on track. Moreira stayed in 12th on the penultimate lap.

Fernández passed Aldeguer to take eighth, while Moreira passed Joan Mir to claim 11th. The Brazilian also managed to pass Binder soon after, advancing to tenth. Unthreatened, Bezzecchi went on to win, with Martín and Bagnaia completing the podium.
