Noel León was disqualified from the main Formula 2 race in Belgium for an unusual reason. The Campos Racing driver had finished in seventh place.
The FIA determined that during the red-flag period at Spa-Francorchamps, a team guest was using a headset with a microphone in the pit lane, something not permitted under the Sporting Regulations. Although the team explained that the guest had inadvertently picked up the item, the stewards ruled that Campos Racing was responsible for providing the correct equipment.
“During the race, it was claimed that a person not carrying out operational duties wore a headset with a microphone in the pit lane during the red-flag period, violating Article 21.5 and Appendix 5 of the FIA F2 Sporting Regulations. After the race, the stewards spoke with Nikola Tsolov, since León had left the track, and with a representative of Campos Racing,” the statement read.
“The team representative explained that the person in question was a guest of the team who had inadvertently taken the wrong type of headset. The stewards’ stance is that the team remains responsible for ensuring that radio equipment provided to non-operational personnel and team guests complies with the applicable requirements,” the statement continued.
Because the guest was tied exclusively to León’s car, the Mexican driver was disqualified from the result after finishing seventh. “As it was established that the guest was exclusively associated with Car 5, the stewards determined that the disqualification should apply solely to León.”
Not only that, Campos Racing also received a suspended 25-point deduction in the championship, which will be applied only if the team commits another violation of the same regulation before the end of the 2026 season. “Additionally, the stewards removed 25 points from Campos Racing’s championship. This deduction is suspended, provided there are no further violations of the FIA F2 Sporting Regulations Article 2026 at any FIA F2 events during the remainder of the 2026 season.”
