F1: Mekies Provides Update on Hadjar’s Wrist Injury, Emphasizes Recovery Is the Priority

September 15, 2026

Laurent Mekies once again stressed that Red Bull’s main priority is to ensure that Isack Hadjar is completely well before returning to Formula 1.

The Frenchman suffered a wrist injury during a boxing training session in the category’s summer break. Since then, he has been recovering but had to miss the Dutch, Italian and Spanish Grands Prix, with Liam Lawson taking his place – at Red Bull Racing, Yuki Tsunoda was drafted in.

According to information brought by GPblog, it is still not certain when Max Verstappen’s teammate will be able to return to his car in F1 – the next race on the calendar is the Azerbaijan GP, which takes place next week.

Hadjar has been traveling with Red Bull and during the Spanish GP, Mekies said that “Isack is well. He is on the lower level. Jokes aside, there is nothing wrong with Isack’s recovery. I think we’ve learned that the recovery time is the standard for the type of injury he suffered. Therefore, we will maintain the same approach we had been adopting.”

“You know, we will assess the situation in a week. We have a full week, or a little more than that, to assess the status, see how he feels and, then, put him in the simulator to expose him to the real demands of driving,” he continued.

“If he feels close to 100%, we move forward. If we feel that the recovery isn’t complete, we will keep our approach of prioritizing his recovery. What we do not want is, with a hasty return, to compromise his ability to return to 100% in the long term,” he added.
