A Brazilian driver in his debut Formula 3 season, Pedro Clerot claimed his first win in the category this Saturday (12), in the opening of the two main races of the final round of the championship, held at Madring, a circuit located in Madrid, Spain. The holder of car number 17 for Rodin Motorsport started from second on the grid and seized the lead within the opening meters, never again threatened and crossing the finish line after 19 laps.
Clerot had already shone on Friday, when he secured second on the grid for Saturday’s main race and third for Sunday’s start. After a Sprint in which he crossed the finish line in 11th place, the Brazilian dominated the afternoon’s race, becoming the first driver with a background in F4 Brasil to win a race in Formula 3.
“I have no words to describe what I’m feeling right now. We knew that the start would determine everything, and together with the team we crafted a very solid plan. We made the necessary adjustments compared to this morning’s race and simply maximized everything within our reach. The race was a bit chaotic, I’m glad everyone is okay after the incident; obviously, I managed to keep a bit of control and then pushed at full speed to the finish. I’m very happy to take the victory and I think we truly deserved this,” Clerot said after the race.
“We had a few setbacks contending for the win in Spa; it could have been Monza, leading the race, but we faced a engine problem. At the Red Bull Ring, another truly strong weekend, with a second place in the Sprint and also a fourth in the main race, but I knew it was a matter of time. We arrived at the weekend and quickly realized that we had the pace to fight for victory. I let the team do its job with the car, and they did, while I did my part on the track, which I think is the most important,” concluded Pedro Clerot, who is sponsored by Banco BRB.
The victory also marks Clerot’s fourth podium of the year. In addition to the win in the Spanish capital, Clerot earned a second place in Austria and two third-place finishes, achieved in Monaco and Belgium. The Madring win moves the driver up to seventh in the standings, with 73 points after Saturday’s races.
The Formula 3 season will conclude this Sunday (13) with another race, scheduled for 4:45. F1TV will broadcast the event live.
