Alexander Dunne was the fastest driver in the only free practice session for the tenth round of the 2026 Formula 2 season. The session, held on Friday morning (the 4th) at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in Italy, saw the Rodin Motorsport driver and current fourth in the standings clock his best lap at 1m31.957s.
The runner-up spot went to Oliver Goethe, MP Motorsport’s driver who was beaten by Dunne by 0.170s. Nico Varrone, who races for Van Amersfoort, secured the third-fastest time, followed by Nikola Tsolov, the championship leader and fourth fastest with Campos Racing. Roman Bilinski, driving for DAMS, completed the list of the top five quickest.
Joshua Durksen, of Invicta Racing, finished sixth, just ahead of Martinius Stenshorne, seventh fastest with Rodin Motorsport. Noel León, from Campos Racing, came in eighth, with Rafael Câmara, the Brazilian Invicta driver, ninth. Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, of ART Grand Prix, completed the top ten.
After nine rounds, Gabriele Mini sat as the championship’s vice-leader, yet only managed a 14th place in a MP Motorsport car. Emmo Fittipaldi, the other Brazilian on the 2026 Formula 2 grid, finished 16th for AIX Racing.
The session was briefly red-flagged with 17 minutes remaining after Colton Herta crashed his Hitech machine into the barriers at Turn 7, forcing the session to be stopped.
From 9:55 a.m., the qualifying will be held to determine the starting grid for the weekend’s two races. The Sprint is due to start at 9:15 a.m. this Saturday, while the main race is scheduled for 4:45 p.m. this Sunday.
