F1 2026 Standings Ahead of the British Grand Prix

July 2, 2026

Formula 1 arrives at the 2026 British Grand Prix with Kimi Antonelli leading the Drivers’ World Championship and Mercedes ahead in the Constructors’ standings. The Silverstone round, the ninth of the season, will be contested in a sprint format and could have a significant impact on the championship’s progression.

After the Austrian GP, Antonelli leads the drivers’ standings with 171 points. George Russell, winner of the Austrian round, sits second with 131 points, while Lewis Hamilton is third with 125. Antonelli’s lead over Russell stands at 40 points.

The battle just behind is also tight. Oscar Piastri is fourth with 80 points. Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc each have 79, while Max Verstappen sits seventh with 73. This means Silverstone could substantially reshuffle the order among McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull in the chasing pack.

In the Constructors’ World Championship, Mercedes leads with 302 points. Ferrari is second with 204, while McLaren holds third with 159. Red Bull Racing is fourth with 115, followed by Alpine, which has 57.

The British GP will also be important for Gabriel Bortoleto. The Brazilian sits 17th in the Drivers’ World Championship with 2 points, all of Audi’s points this season so far. The German team sits ninth in the constructors’ standings, also with 2 points, ahead of Aston Martin and Cadillac.

Silverstone will feature sprint programming, which increases the weekend’s points distribution and shortens the teams’ preparation time. On Friday there will be only one free practice before the sprint qualifying. On Saturday, the sprint race and the GP qualifying take place. The main race will be contested on Sunday.

With this scenario, the British GP could prove decisive in confirming Mercedes’ strength, measuring Ferrari’s reaction, testing McLaren on home soil, and showing whether Red Bull can still close the gap to the leaders. On a high-speed circuit like Silverstone, the championship standings could take on new meanings as early as Friday.
