Alpine issued a statement addressing the penalties handed down for yellow flag infractions at the Dutch Grand Prix of Formula 1. The team accepted that the sanctions were in line with the regulations and applied consistently throughout the field, even though they were described as stringent.
Franco Colapinto received a drive-through penalty after overtaking Yuki Tsunoda during the yellow flag period at Turn 14 on the opening lap in Zandvoort. The competitor also accrued two additional points on his Super License, bringing the total to three over the next 12 months.
In a statement issued thereafter, the French squad accepted the penalties on the Argentine driver, even though they viewed them as a stringent measure. “As a team, we have worked closely with the sport’s governing body on on-track dispute rules, with the aim of ensuring fair and exciting races and, above all, safety,” they wrote.
“We have full confidence in the FIA and the stewards regarding the enforcement of these rules and the imposition of sporting penalties during the race. We believe that the penalties imposed for yellow flag infringements during the opening laps of the Dutch GP were indeed stringent; however, we acknowledge that they are in line with the letter of the regulation and were applied consistently to all competitors, something that, as a team, we can review and learn from,” they concluded.
