Michelin has been designated by the FIA and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest as the sole tire provider for Hypercars in the World Endurance Championship through the 2032 season, marking an extension of the French company’s involvement at the sport’s premier level.
In a Tuesday announcement, the arrangement prolongs Michelin’s role in the WEC’s top tier beyond the previously planned end date of 2029.
As a result, Michelin will supply tires for the forthcoming generation of Hypercar-style prototypes in both the WEC and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, beginning with the new regulatory cycle that is due to start in 2030.
The decision emerged from a fiercely contested tender process that pitted Michelin against Goodyear, with the original plan to reveal the outcome at this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans postponed on several occasions.
A thorough evaluation process was conducted by the FIA in conjunction with the ACO and was sanctioned by the FIA World Motor Sport Council via an electronic vote.
The tender process assessed candidates against a range of criteria, including technical expertise, product quality, sporting performance in different conditions, operational and customer service capabilities, sustainability commitments, marketing support and long-term contribution to the continued growth of endurance racing,” a statement from the FIA read.
Michelin Motorsport Director Matthieu Bonardel noted that the renewed confidence shown by the FIA and the ACO was a source of particular pride.
He also expressed sincere thanks to both organizations for the quality of discussions throughout the tender process.
This contract extension is a strong recognition of the quality of the tires and services Michelin provides, as well as the company’s ability to sustain innovation.
It is also excellent news for the teams and for all of Michelin’s manufacturer partners, who share the same ambition: to push the boundaries of performance while accelerating the transition toward increasingly sustainable mobility.
Goodyear, meanwhile, has been confirmed as the LMGT3 tire supplier for the same period, following an earlier announcement of an extension through the 2029 season at Le Mans.
Goodyear Racing Vice President Xavier Fraipont said that when the collaboration with the FIA and ACO began in 2024, LMGT3 was viewed as a platform with tremendous growth potential, aided by strong fan support for the street-going versions of these race cars.
He added that Goodyear remains committed to growing with the ACO and FIA and to strengthening the company’s position as the benchmark in GT racing, including the road cars that echo these race machines.
The arrangement will allow Goodyear to continue delivering its technical expertise to one of the world’s most competitive racing environments while continuing to push the boundaries of performance and innovation.
Together with the FIA and the ACO, Goodyear and its partners aim to write the next chapter of this successful collaboration, both on the track and beyond.
