Formula 1 had a Thursday marked by significant off-track moves, with Mercedes ending a Monaco-related dispute, Ferrari and McLaren preparing updates, and Red Bull seeking technical answers to try to rebound this season.
Mercedes officially withdrew the request for a Right of Review filed with the FIA regarding the Monaco Grand Prix result. As a result, the race classification remains unchanged, Pierre Gasly retains the third place recovered after the penalties review, and George Russell will not have the points the team believed had been lost.
On the technical side, Ferrari is preparing new steps after Lewis Hamilton’s podium in Monaco and the seven-time World Champion’s victory in Barcelona. The team awaits a definition from the FIA on the ADUO system to implement updates to the power unit, with expectations for a first revised version already at the Austrian Grand Prix.
McLaren also confirmed developments for the upcoming races. Andrea Stella stated that the team intends to continue developing the car for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, while acknowledging Ferrari’s current strength in the chassis and Mercedes’ pace on a single lap.
At Red Bull, Max Verstappen visited the factory in Milton Keynes and had the first contact with the package planned for the Austrian Grand Prix, which is expected to include a significant weight reduction on the RB22. At the same time, the team continues awaiting a new FIA analysis of the Red Bull-Ford power unit, after disagreeing with the initial assessment of the ADUO system.
The calendar also came into focus. A possible agreement between the United States and Iran increased the chances of keeping the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix, but Formula 1 still awaits security guarantees before definitively confirming the season’s final stretch.
