Ugo Ugochukwu was the fastest driver on the first day of Formula 3’s mid-season test sessions at the Red Bull Ring, held this Wednesday (20). The Campos Racing American registered a lap of 1min20s368 in the first of the day’s two activities at the circuit located in Austria, and he was not surpassed by his rivals throughout the day.
The second place went to Tuukka Taponen, MP Motorsport driver who finished 0.073 seconds behind the time set by Ugochukwu. Noah Stromsted, in a Trident, posted the third-best time, followed by his teammate Freddie Slater. The top five also included Brando Badoer, in a Rodin.
Brad Benavides completed the session with the sixth-best time in an AIX Racing car, finishing just ahead of Louis Sharp, seventh with Prema. Hiyu Yamakoshi, from Van Amersfoort, was eighth, followed by Pedro Clerot, Rodin’s Brazilian driver who finished ninth. Nicola Lacorte, from DAMS, completed the top-10. Fernando Barrichello finished 28th with an AIX Racing car.
The activity held this Wednesday was the category’s first official session since the Australia round at the start of March. F3 was due to race in Bahrain, but the event was cancelled due to the conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
The tests continue on Thursday at the Red Bull Ring. The next round is scheduled for June 4-7 in Monaco.
