Rafael Câmara continues his journey toward Formula 1. After a victorious karting career, the Brazilian racked up wins in Formula 4, claimed the titles of Formula Regional and Formula 3, and is currently third in the Formula 2 standings after nine rounds this season.
In an interview with Sky Sports F1, the 21-year-old driver looked back at his early contacts with the sport’s pinnacle, revealed that Fernando Alonso was his childhood idol, and stated that he hopes to follow in Oliver Bearman’s footsteps as a member of Ferrari’s Driver Academy.
“When you’re a kid, you don’t know how big this will become or what will happen. I’ve always enjoyed watching Formula 1, and of course, it was a dream every child has: to reach that stage. I remember at that time I cheered for Alonso at Ferrari. I also recall watching the final race of 2012, in Interlagos, when Alonso and Sebastian Vettel were battling for the championship,” he said.
“It’s definitely very exciting. It’s also really cool to see Ollie, who came through the Academy, getting the chance to reach Formula 1. That motivates me to keep working, to continue evolving, and, who knows, someday also receive an opportunity,” he concluded.
