The MotoGP season will begin in 2027 with the Thailand Grand Prix, scheduled from March 5 to 7 in Buriram. The event will also mark the debut of the new technical regulations that will be in effect through 2031.
It will be the third consecutive year that Thailand hosts the season opener. Following the opening rounds of 2025 and 2026, the Chang International Circuit will once again bring together the sport’s top riders at the start of a historic season.
The Thailand Grand Prix will be the first race run with the new generation of motorcycles developed for the 2027–2031 technical cycle. Consequently, Buriram will host the competitive debut of the new rules and inaugurate a new phase for the world’s premier motorcycle championship.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of the MotoGP Group, highlighted that the choice underscores the partnership built with the country and the strength of the local fans. “Hosting the MotoGP season-opening round for the third consecutive year is a reflection of the excellent partnership we have built with Thailand and of the incredible passion of the fans. Buriram has consistently delivered one of the best events on our calendar,” he said.
The official also emphasized the symbolic importance of the race for the new era. “The first race under the 2027 regulations will mark the start of a new and exciting chapter for our sport, and we are very happy to begin this journey in Thailand,” he added.
Buriram already holds a prominent place on the schedule. At the opening of the current season, Marco Bezzecchi won aboard an Aprilia in front of a record crowd of 228,228 spectators, a result that underscored Thailand’s importance for MotoGP.
With the Chang International Circuit’s facilities, the growing crowd, and the anticipation surrounding the new motorcycles, the 2027 round will bring together the main elements to begin the next technical chapter of the category.
