Jorge Martín clinched pole position for the Austrian GP, the 15th round of the 2026 MotoGP season. In the final phase of qualifying held on Saturday morning (the 19th) at the Red Bull Ring, the Aprilia rider posted, in the closing minutes, a lap of 1:27.917, earning the top spot for this morning’s Sprint and for Sunday’s main race.
The second place on the grid belonged to Marc Márquez, the Ducati rider who was beaten by 0.015 seconds by Martín. Pedro Acosta, who dominated Friday’s practice sessions, completes the front row with KTM. Marco Bezzecchi, on an Aprilia, will start fourth, opening a second row that will also feature Ai Ogura, on an Trackhouse Aprilia, and Álex Márquez, on a Trackhouse Ducati.
Francesco Bagnaia, who advanced through Q1, starts seventh with Ducati, while Fabio Di Giannantonio, VR46’s Ducati rider, sits eighth, just ahead of Fabio Quartararo, ninth on a Yamaha. Johann Zarco, aboard a LCR Honda, was the tenth fastest, with Brad Binder of LCR in 11th. The group of the top 12 also includes Fermín Aldeguer, aboard a Gresini Ducati.
Those left out in the early session and who will have to race through are Raúl Fernández. The Trackhouse Aprilia rider was the third fastest in Q1 and will start only from 13th position in the weekend’s two races. Meanwhile Diogo Moreira, the only Brazilian on the grid, was sixth in the opening phase and will start 16th on the LCR Honda.
The session featured a crash. With a little over two minutes remaining in the qualifying, Álex Márquez crashed at Turn 1 of the Austrian circuit on a Gresini-prepared Ducati. The yellow flag was waved at the scene but was soon withdrawn.
From 10:00, the Sprint will be contested at the Red Bull Ring. The Austrian MotoGP Grand Prix starts at 9:00 on Sunday.
