Ritomo Miyata won on Saturday (12) the Sprint that opened the 11th round of the 2026 Formula 2 season, held at Madring, the street circuit set up in Madrid, Spain. The Hitech driver took the lead at the start and managed to fend off attacks from his rivals over the 23 laps, securing the victory in the weekend’s shorter race.
Second place went to Emmo Fittipaldi, the AIX Racing driver who started from pole and crossed the finish line just over two seconds behind the winner. Laurens van Hoepen, from Trident, completed the podium in third, followed by Noel León in fourth with a Campos Racing car. Martinius Stenshorne, driving for Rodin Motorsport, finished fifth.
The Brazilian Rafael Câmara crossed the finish line in sixth place after withstanding attacks from Alexander Dunne, seventh with Rodin Motorsport. Mari Boya, from Prema, completed the points in eighth place. Gabriele Mini, from MP Motorsport, and Dino Beganovic, from DAMS, completed the list of the top ten
The Sprint featured Safety Car deployments. On the first lap, Nico Varrone, who was bumped by Kush Maini and crashed the Van Amersfoort car into the wall, retired from the race and caused the neutralization. The Indian driver also damaged the suspension and left the competition. Just before, John Bennett and Sebastian Montoya clashed and needed to go to the pits.
On lap 15, Nikola Tsolov, who had been challenging Campos Racing teammate Noel León for several laps, spun alone at Turn 20, leaving the car dead and retiring from the race, in addition to triggering another Safety Car on track.
The Madrid round of Formula 2 concludes with the race scheduled for 6:25 a.m. this Sunday (the 13th).
