F2 Italy Race Recap: Browning Takes Victory in Turbulent Main Event

September 12, 2025

Luke Browning emerged victorious in the early hours of Sunday morning, winning the feature race of the 11th round of the 2025 Formula 2 season, held at the Monza National Autodrome in Italy. The Hitech driver started from pole position and took the lead for good on the 18th of the 30 laps, overtaking Joshua Durksen and going on to win as the double-header came to a close.

Joshua Durksen of AIX Racing took second place, having led the race at one point and engages in a fierce duel with Josep María Martí in the final laps, relegating the Campos Racing driver to third place. Rafael Villagómez completed the race in fourth place with Van Amersfoort, followed by Leonardo Fornaroli of Invicta.

Dino Beganovic, driving a Hitech car, finished the race in sixth place, just ahead of Gabriele Mini, who finished seventh with Prema. Richard Verschoor of MP Motorsport took eighth place, while Sebastian Montoya of Prema crossed the finish line in ninth place. John Bennett of Van Amersfoort rounded out the top ten.

The Safety Car was deployed on the eighth lap after Alexander Dunne crashed heavily into the tire barrier with his Rodin car, abandoning the race at the Monza National Autodrome after being hit hard by Arvid Lindblad, who collided with him. The Campos Racing driver was penalized with a 10-second penalty for the incident with the Irish driver.

In the tenth lap, as everyone prepared for the restart, Cian Shields crashed alone, while Amaury Cordeel hit Sebastian Montoya. The race direction decided to give the green flag nonetheless, and Lindblad, with his damaged front wing from the incident with Dunne, hit Roman Stanek. Victor Martins was also hit and retired. The Safety Car returned to the track.

On the restart of lap 14, Sami Meguetounif spun on the first turn of the Italian circuit with the Trident car, causing the third neutralization of the race.

The next round of the Formula 2 season will be held on September 19-21 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
