The Brazilian Rafael Câmara clinched pole position for the fifth round of the 2026 Formula 2 season. In qualifying on Friday morning at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain, the Invicta Racing driver posted a 1:24.810 in the session’s first half, securing the top spot for the second consecutive round.
Invicta also watched Joshua Durksen secure second place, 0.135 seconds adrift of Câmara. Alexander Dunne, driving for Rodin Motorsport, finished third and will line up on the second row alongside Gabriele Mini, the championship leader and a driver for MP Motorsport. Rafael Villagómez of Van Amersfoort completes the top five.
Nikola Tsolov, in a Campos Racing car, starts sixth on Sunday’s race, while Nico Varrone, of Van Amersfoort, finished seventh. Colton Herta put Hitech in eighth, while Kush Maini, from ART Grand Prix, was the ninth-best. Noel León, from Campos Racing, completes the top-10 and will lead the Sprint. Enzo Fittipaldi finished 18th with AIX Racing.
The session that decided the weekend’s starting grid ended with a red flag in the final minutes. Ritomo Miyata slipped off the track with the Hitech car, went through the gravel and ended up against the tire barrier. Unable to exit the car, race control halted proceedings with 3 minutes and 41 seconds remaining.
The Sprint for the fifth round of Formula 2 is scheduled for Saturday, with a start at 9:15 a.m. The main race in Barcelona will begin at 6:25 a.m. on Sunday.
