F2 Azerbaijan Sprint Race: Beganovic Takes Lead at Start and Wins in Baku

September 21, 2025

Dino Beganovic emerged victorious on Saturday (20) in the Sprint race of the 12th stage of the 2025 Formula 2 season, held on the circuit built on the streets of Baku, Azerbaijan. The Hitech driver took the lead at the start, overtaking Rafael Villagómez, and maintained his position throughout the contest, securing his first win in the category in a 21-lap race.

The second position was secured by Luke Browning, who guaranteed a Hitech one-two finish after overtaking Sebastian Montoya, who experienced problems on lap 19 while running third with Prema. Alexander Dunne of Rodin completed the podium due to the Colombian’s car failure. Jak Crawford of DAMS finished the race in fourth, followed by Leonardo Fornaroli of Invicta, who made a pass on the final lap over Gabriele Mini.

Richard Verschoor of MP Motorsport finished sixth with a move in the final corners, overtaking Mini, who was only seventh with Prema. The points zone was completed by Victor Martins, eighth with ART Grand Prix. The list of the top ten also included Joshua Durksen of AIX Racing and Arvid Lindblad of Campos Racing.

The race featured neutralizations. Right at the start, Rafael Villagómez, who started from pole position, was involved in a touch with Josep María Martí and Martinius Stenshorne, spinning and ending up on the track. In another part of the track, Oliver Goethe and Arvid Lindblad spun in the same corner. The Safety Car had to be deployed.

In the ninth lap, the Virtual Safety Car was deployed after Stenshorne, who was running second after overtaking Montoya, experienced car problems with Trident. A lap later, the real Safety Car was deployed.

The main race of the Baku stage of Formula 2 will be held on Sunday (20), starting at 4 am.
