Toto Wolff made a point of highlighting George Russell’s talent, even though the driver has been facing a challenging season in Formula 1 in 2026.
The Briton began the year as the title favorite, especially after the victory at the Australian Grand Prix. However, he has been overshadowed by the talent of his teammate Kimi Antonelli, who has eight wins from 14 rounds and holds an 81-point advantage at the top.
However, the Austrian Mercedes boss in F1 took care to back Russell, stressing that he had not forgotten everything the competitor is capable of doing on track.

“When it comes to George, you can have good races, bad races, good years and many bad years. But we are talking about the driver who has won everything there was to win previously,” he said.
“All the karting championships, Formula 3 in his debut year, Formula 2 in his debut year, and then the move to Williams. In other words, we are talking about a top-tier driver,” he added.
