F1 Today: Piastri, Horner and Rain Shake Up Silverstone

July 1, 2026

Wednesday was a busy day behind the scenes in Formula 1 ahead of the British Grand Prix. The day featured rumors involving Oscar Piastri and Christian Horner, as well as news about Williams and the forecast of rain for Silverstone.

At McLaren, Piastri’s future resurfaced as a topic of discussion. According to journalist Ralf Bach, Mark Webber, the Australian’s manager, would be talking with other teams in search of alternatives for the future. The activity comes amid rumors about Max Verstappen and McLaren, although Zak Brown has reiterated that Lando Norris and Piastri are set to stay with the British squad for a long time.

Horner also found himself at the center of speculation. Aston Martin would be again interested in the former Red Bull boss, with Lawrence Stroll continuing to want the executive to lead the team’s project. Aston Martin itself avoided confirming any negotiations and stated that it does not comment on rumors or speculation.

At Williams, James Vowles unveiled an aggressive development plan aimed at changing the season’s course. The team principal stated that the FW48 would be “almost entirely new” by the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, following updates planned for Silverstone, Spa, Budapest and Zandvoort. The objective is to tackle performance issues and excess weight.

The weather also came onto the radar for the British Grand Prix. The forecast points to a dry Friday with temperatures around 24°C, but the trend shifts starting Saturday. For Sunday, there is a higher risk of rain in the afternoon, with temperatures between 18°C and 19°C and wind gusts that could influence the race at Silverstone.
