Williams is preparing to deliver a massive update package in the hope that it will place them in the contention for this weekend’s Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Having failed to capitalize on the new 2026 regulations, the British team has spent the year trying to get back on track and close the gap to the leaders—the previous year they finished fifth in the Constructors’ Championship, but this season, after 14 races, they have accumulated only 11 points.
While Alexander Albon remains hopeful about Williams’ update in F1, he also raised a few questions. “They are meaningful if they work, so we’ll see how things unfold. We have to be honest with ourselves; we know what they should deliver on paper,” he said.
“I believe weight has been a big talking point and, typically, weight is something tangible; so we hope that this puts us in a good position. The team has done a huge amount of work at the factory. Undertaking a chassis change mid-season isn’t easy, and that places us in a better position. Whether this will be enough to contend for places in the midfield, only time will tell,” he added.
Asked whether they had seen something promising during simulator trials, the driver replied that “they usually work in the simulator, yes. That’s where a lot of our calculations come from.”
“We’ve seen before that sometimes simulator data and track data don’t match, but I’m optimistic. Visually the car won’t look that different, but there are a few small, good changes that we hope will also improve balance,” he concluded.
