Carlos Sainz paid a special tribute to Marc Márquez after the Spanish rider’s seventh title in MotoGP. In an interview with the El Partidazo program on COPE radio, the Williams driver praised his compatriot’s remarkable recovery, which saw him return to the top of his sport after years marked by severe injuries that threatened to end his career.
“I’ve already congratulated him, because he’s had a great year and deserves a lot of credit for the comeback he’s made in his career”, said Sainz.
The Spanish driver went further, comparing Márquez to one of the greatest legends in Formula 1: “Márquez is the Ayrton Senna of MotoGP. It’s just that, because we’re living through this now, we don’t appreciate it. On the day he retires, and as the years go by, everyone will remember Marc as the closest thing to what Ayrton Senna was in Formula 1”, concluded Sainz.
The comparison highlights the magnitude of Márquez’s achievement, who, despite several obstacles caused by serious injuries, managed to re-establish himself among the greats in the history of motorcycling.
