The Formula 2 championship’s vice-leader, Rafael Câmara, will start among the top five in both main races of the 12th round of the 2026 season. On Thursday morning (the 24th) at the Baku circuit in Azerbaijan, the Invicta Racing driver finished fifth in the day’s first qualifying session, while in the second he was third-best, after leading a large part of the activity in the Azerbaijani capital.
Câmara arrived at this weekend’s round seven points behind the Formula 2 leader. After the qualifying results, the Brazilian, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, will start ahead of his rival in the title fight for the two main races at the 6,003-meter circuit. Following the classifications, the driver expressed satisfaction with the results and expects lively races as the round continues in the Azeri capital.
“I think it was a decent qualifying overall. Obviously, from the first qualifying, I believe we had a solid base and I felt more comfortable in the car in the second session. I think we probably didn’t maximize the strategy, but I’m very happy with the starting position we have. Here in Baku there’s always a lot of action in the races, so surely a lot will happen. Let’s see how it will unfold,” Rafael Câmara said.
“I’m quite satisfied with what we did and, from there, we can pick up some important points. We need to stay focused, keep our heads in the right place, and be consistent to fight for the championship,” added the Invicta Racing driver.
After qualifying, the Formula 2 schedule features the Sprint starting at 1:15 a.m. on Friday, the day that will host Main Race 1 at 7:15 a.m. Main Race 2 is scheduled to start at 4:00 a.m. Sportv, Globoplay and F1TV will broadcast the events live.
