Filip Salac was the fastest rider on Friday (the 18th) during the free practice sessions for the Austrian Grand Prix, the 15th round of the 2026 Moto2 season. In the final of the day’s two sessions at the Red Bull Ring, the American Racing Team rider posted his best lap in 1:32.402, not being outpaced by any rival and earning a direct spot into Q2 in the standings.
In second place came Ivan Ortolá, MSI rider who was defeated by Salac by 0.097 seconds. Daniel Holgado, aboard a CFMOTO, finished the day with the third-best time, followed by Tony Arbolino, fourth with Fantic Racing. The top five was completed by Izán Guevara, riding a Pramac.
David Alonso, rider for CFMOTO, closed the day in sixth, while Alex Escrig, defending KLINT, posted the seventh-fastest time on Friday. Championship leader Manuel González finished eighth for Intact GP, ahead of Celestino Vietti, ninth with Speed RS. The top-10 was completed by Alonso López of Gresini.
Besides the ten riders mentioned, Q2, scheduled for this morning, will also feature four other competitors. Mario Aji was 11th with Team Asia, while Senna Agius, on an Intact GP bike, posted the 12th time. David Muñoz, with Italtrans, finished 13th, while José Antonio Rueda, aboard an Ajo bike, completed the list of classified riders in 14th.
The Moto2 program continues on Saturday (the 19th), first with a free practice at 04:25, followed by qualifying starting at 08:40. The Austrian Grand Prix will be contested on Sunday at 07:15.
