Máximo Quiles won this Sunday (20) the Austrian Grand Prix, the 15th round of the 2026 Moto3 season, held at the Red Bull Ring. The Aspar rider and championship leader started from fourth position, but took advantage of the medium tires and a fall by David Almansa to seize the lead and go on to win for the ninth time this year.
The second place went to Brian Uriarte, a rider for Ajo who couldn’t keep up with Quiles’ pace, but managed to pull away from his teammate Álvaro Carpe, who completed the podium in third. Eddie O’Shea, aboard a GRYD bike, finished fourth, while Guido Pini, on a Leopard Racing bike, completed the top five.
Casey O’Gorman crossed the finish line in sixth place aboard a SIC58, followed by Adrián Cruces, seventh with CIP. Marco Morelli, who climbed 15 positions over the 20 laps of the race, finished eighth with Aspar, while Hakim Danish and Ryusei Yamanaka, both MSI riders, completed the top-10.
The race featured crashes. David Almansa, who took the lead at the start and remained in that position, fell while misjudging the exit of turn 2 on the eighth lap. With five laps to go, David Muñoz, who returned to the grid this weekend, fell while contesting a position with Veda Pratama, retiring from the race. On the following lap, Jesús Ríos crashed, but rejoined the race, while Adrian Fernández fell with three laps remaining.
With the results of the Austrian GP, Quiles reaches 306 points and could seal the title as early as the next round in Japan. Carpe is second with 175 points, one more than Almansa and Uriarte, who are tied in third with 174 points each;
The 2026 Moto3 season will continue on October 4 with the Japanese Grand Prix, a race scheduled for the Motegi circuit.
