Germany could host another Formula 1 race in the near future. Stefano Domenicali, the sport’s CEO, stated that the country has again shown conditions that could pave the way for a new agreement.
The German Grand Prix left the calendar after the 2019 edition, amid the expansion of the schedule into new markets. Before that, Hockenheim and the Nürburgring alternated hosting the event due to the high costs involved in the early 2010s.
Domenicali highlighted the presence of important names linked to F1 in the country as one of the factors driving the talks: “We cannot forget that Audi is entering the sport. We have major partners that are headquartered in Germany,” he stated. According to him, the country wants the category to evaluate a possible return in the medium term, reclaiming the relevance it had previously.
The official also assessed that the German scenario is starting to present interesting prospects for the category: “The new situation in Germany is beginning to move in the direction I potentially see for the future, being a very interesting market that will have a positive effect on both the media side and perhaps on the promoter side,” he added.
Despite the possibility, Domenicali made clear that there is still no guarantee of a return. The last official edition of the German Grand Prix took place in 2019, although the Nürburgring circuit hosted a race in 2020, during the Covid-19-affected season, under the name of the Eifel Grand Prix.
