Rafael Câmara regained space in Formula 1 headlines this Saturday by commenting on the rumors that place him as a candidate for a Haas seat in 2027. The day also brought confirmation of a significant addition to Red Bull, new statements about Max Verstappen’s future, planned changes by the FIA, and discussions about calendar expansion.
Câmara said he views the speculation about a potential arrival in F1 with optimism, but he assured that he does not intend to lose focus on the Formula 2 battle. The Brazilian, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, believes that his current results will be decisive for any future opportunity and stressed that “the dream is within reach,” although his priority remains to seize the chance to contend for the title.
At Red Bull, the hiring of Tom McCullough was confirmed after his stint at Aston Martin. The engineer is expected to take on part of the duties currently performed by Gianpiero Lambiase within the racing setup, while the team continues reorganizing key areas. The move also comes amid doubts about Verstappen’s stay, with Emerson Fittipaldi assessing that a potential departure by the Dutch driver could trigger a real “musical chairs” scenario on the grid.
Gabriel Bortoleto was also among the highlights as he spoke about the transformation Audi has undergone since the full incorporation of the former Sauber. The Brazilian pointed to a shift in the team’s mindset, as well as increased financial resources, structure and in-house development of the power unit, although he acknowledged that the project still needs to advance to catch up with the main forces.
On the technical front, McLaren said it was comfortable with the strategy to balance the development of the 2026 and 2027 cars. Andrea Stella explained that the lessons from the current model could be used in the next project, while the team still foresees updates after the major package scheduled for Baku. Mercedes, for its part, arrived at the break as the season’s benchmark, with eight victories, ten poles and leading both championships, although Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull have narrowed their advantage in recent races.
The calendar also returned to the center of attention. Stefano Domenicali confirmed talks for a possible new race in South America, without revealing the country involved. Argentina appears among the interested parties, while F1 continues discussions in other regions and is already working with a 24-race calendar.
Among the other topics published this Saturday, the FIA revealed the goal of reducing the weight of the cars by about 80 kg starting in 2031, Fernando Alonso was linked to a possible multimillion-dollar contract negotiation, and McLaren continued working to sustain its recovery in the second half of the season.
