Tuesday in Formula 1 was busy with rumors about Max Verstappen, FIA technical discussions, and strong statements from Gabriel Bortoleto. The day also brought updates from Ferrari in Madrid and new details about the relationship between Verstappen and Christian Horner.
Verstappen’s future returned to center stage after the British Grand Prix. Backstage rumors point to the four-time world champion getting closer to McLaren, although neither side has confirmed the information. The speculation gained momentum after a frustrating weekend for the Dutch driver at Silverstone, marked by retirement and dissatisfaction with Red Bull.
The FIA also stirred the headlines by studying the creation of an independent engine for customer teams in the next cycle of regulations. The idea seeks to reduce manufacturers’ influence over teams that receive power units and is part of discussions for 2030 or 2031, which also include V8 engines and even the possibility of a return to refueling.
Bortoleto, for his part, defended the current F1 regulations and pushed back against criticisms from other drivers. After scoring in the British GP with eighth place for Audi, the Brazilian stated that the sport has not lost its magic and that the drivers need to adapt to the cars of the new generation.

Ferrari also took center stage. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will be the first drivers to complete laps with a current-generation F1 car in Madrid, the new circuit of the Spanish Grand Prix, during a team filming session.

Verstappen also revealed that he keeps nearly weekly conversations with Horner since the departure of the former Red Bull chief. The Briton reappeared in the Silverstone paddock and remains tied to potential roles in Formula 1.
