Ferrari has put an end to speculation about Lewis Hamilton’s future in Formula 1. The team’s boss, Frédéric Vasseur, confirmed that the seven-time world champion will continue to defend the Italian outfit’s colors in the 2027 season.
This confirmation comes after a much more competitive start to 2026 for Hamilton. After facing difficulties in his first year with Ferrari in 2025, the Brit began regularly reaching the podium and achieved a standout result, winning in Barcelona, solidifying his progression within the team.
Vasseur admitted that he had underestimated the magnitude of the challenge Hamilton faced in adapting after leaving Mercedes. According to the manager, the change involved much more than simply driving a different car: “Last year, I underestimated the scale of the transition from Mercedes to Ferrari. Everything was new for him, and Lewis isn’t one of those drivers who switch teams every two or three years, like Carlos Sainz,” he told Corriere della Sera.
The Frenchman believes that this period of adaptation is now behind them: “Now he knows the tools, the people and our way of working. With these good results, he has entered into a virtuous circle,” he said.
In light of the strong performance shown this season, questions arose about Hamilton’s continuity with Ferrari in 2027. When directly asked if the driver could be confirmed to stay, Vasseur responded plainly: “Yes.”
The 2026 performance of Hamilton also drew attention for its consistency relative to teammate Charles Leclerc. Still, Vasseur rejected the idea that the SF-26 had been developed specifically to favor the seven-time champion’s characteristics.
“By no means. We do not design Formula 1 cars for one driver or another. At most, the car can evolve based on the feedback from the drivers, because that input is important, but we are talking about marginal differences,” concluded the Ferrari boss, ruling out any project direction aimed exclusively at Hamilton.
