Ben Barker remains optimistic about the final stages of Proton Competition’s campaign in the World Endurance Championship. The driver expressed his belief that both the team and Ford are on the road to achieving better results, particularly in their home race at the Circuit of the Americas.
So far in the season, the team has secured a podium finish thanks to Stefano Gattuso, Giammarco Levorato, and Dennis Olsen. This trio managed to finish in second place at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps held in May.
Since that achievement, Barker, along with Bernardo Sousa and Ben Tuck, achieved a seventh-place finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Most recently, during the race in São Paulo, both Proton cars faced issues and had to retire in Interlagos.
Despite these setbacks, Ben made it a point to highlight the progress made with the Ford Mustang GT3. He remains confident that more successful results are on the horizon. “Of course, we’ve encountered some small problems, which have occasionally slowed us down,” he shared with Sportscar365.
He continued, “But overall, the performance of the car has improved significantly. These issues will be fully resolved, 100%. The pace is getting better, and results will follow. We’ve already seen some good performances this year. Our sister car finished second, and we came fourth at Spa. We had good speed at Imola, although we should have achieved much better there,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Barker expressed optimism for the remainder of the season. “We’re only halfway through, and I hope to climb the podium a few more times,” he concluded.
