Verschoor Beats Durksen to Claim F2 Sprint Victory in Qatar Grand Prix Event

December 21, 2025

Richard Verschoor emerged victorious in the Sprint race of the penultimate round of the 2025 Formula 2 season, held at the Lusail circuit in Qatar on Saturday (29). The MP Motorsport driver started from pole position, briefly lost the lead to Joshua Durksen, but regained the top spot on the fourth of 23 laps, securing the win in the Middle East.

Durksen, driving for AIX Racing, finished the race in second place, unable to match Verschoor’s pace throughout the competition. Rafael Villagómez, behind the wheel of a Van Amersfoort car, completed the podium by overtaking Nikola Tsolov on the final lap. Sebastian Montoya, driving for Prema, and Alexander Dunne, representing Rodin, rounded out the top-5.

Championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli, driving for Invicta, finished the race in sixth place, followed by Martinius Stenshorne, seventh with Rodin. The points zone was completed by Jak Crawford, who staged a recovery drive with DAMS to finish eighth. Dino Beganovic, driving for Hitech, came in ninth, ahead of Nikola Tsolov, who, despite leaving the track on the final lap, finished tenth with Campos Racing.

The race featured a Safety Car intervention on lap 12, after the two Trident drivers, James Wharton and Laurens van Hoepen, collided on the track. The incident forced Wharton to retire from the race and also damaged Van Hoepen’s car. On lap 19, Cian Shields spun and got stuck in the gravel, causing another neutralization of the race.

The main race of the penultimate round of the Formula 2 season will take place on Sunday (30), with the start scheduled for 9:00 AM.
