São Paulo City Hall Reveals Interest in Renewing F1 Contract Through 2035

October 30, 2026

The City of São Paulo is keen to keep Formula 1 in the city for a few more years. With the current contract running through the 2030 season, the new objective is to secure an extension for five more years, taking it to 2035.

On Thursday (29), the traditional press conference took place at the Interlagos Circuit, with the presence of F1MANIA.NET, which precedes the São Paulo Grand Prix. Among those present was the current mayor Ricardo Nunes, who spoke further about the contractual situation of the race in the city.

“Logically, there is the city’s interest in securing the extension of the contract; we already have it through 2030. We are talking with them about how much São Paulo is investing in the Autódromo and how positive this relationship between São Paulo and Formula 1 has been. Nothing you do should be good for one side only; it must have interest from both sides,” he said.

“So, it has been very good for Formula 1, at least that’s what we’ve heard, and we are making many investments; it’s also important for the city that we can have a horizon, looking 20, 30 years ahead. But there is a strong interest in extending the contract from 2030 to 2035,” he continued.

“This is our request; I don’t have an answer yet, but I think that since the city has given a strong response, I have the impression that it will be of interest to F1 to pursue this renewal,” he added.

Alan Adler, promoter of the São Paulo GP, also expressed confidence in the contract extension, reinforcing Nunes’ words. “I am fully aligned with the mayor; the relationship between Formula 1 and the city of São Paulo is wonderful. We recognize all that is being invested, all the effort,” he highlighted.

“What’s great about São Paulo is that here it’s not just a promise; it’s a reality and execution, because today many cities want Formula 1, but it remains all talk, whereas F1, over these years, has built a trustful relationship with São Paulo that is sensational. Stefano, let’s not forget, in the first year he became CEO, his first decision was ‘we will stay in São Paulo.’ I think the prospects are very good,” he concluded.
