The Brazilian Rafael Câmara is the new leader of the Formula 2 championship. The driver, who defends Invicta Racing, completed the opening main race of the weekend’s 12th round of the 2026 season, held on Friday morning (25) on the street circuit laid out in Baku, Azerbaijan, in fourth place, a position that secured him at the top of the standings.
Câmara saiu do grid na quinta posição e, após a aposentadoria de seu principal adversário em um acidente que provocou a queda da bandeira vermelha, manteve cautela no reinício e mostrou velocidade para ultrapassar os rivais. A ultrapassagem que lhe rendeu o quarto lugar na prova e a liderança do campeonato veio apenas nos minutos finais da disputa, encerrada pela passagem do tempo.
With Friday’s results, Câmara now sits on 182 points, one more than the runner-up and eight clear of the third-placed driver in the standings. Over the season, the Brazilian, who competes under the Ferrari Driver Academy umbrella, has claimed two victories, earned in Barcelona and Spa, six podium finishes, ten top-five finishes, and five pole positions.
The Formula 2 calendar returns to action in Baku on Saturday (26), for another main race, scheduled to start at 4:00 a.m. Sportv, Globoplay and F1TV will broadcast the race live.
