Peugeot has formally confirmed that Robert Shwartzman will become part of its FIA World Endurance Championship driver lineup for the 2027 season.
According to Sportscar365’s report from the prior month, the Russian-Israeli racer returns to the WEC with Peugeot after a two-year absence, his most recent action in the Hypercar category in 2024 with the AF Corse Ferrari satellite outfit.
He parted ways with Ferrari after a long-standing relationship to pursue the opportunity to compete in the NTT IndyCar Series with Prema Racing, where he secured pole position for the Indianapolis 500 on both his and the team’s debut at the famous event.
However, Prema’s decision to withdraw from IndyCar at year’s end amid ownership upheaval left Shwartzman unattached as a free agent.
The 26-year-old’s move to Peugeot comes as Stoffel Vandoorne and Malthe Jakobsen prepare to depart the marque at the conclusion of the season, while Theo Pourchaire is expected to step back as he concentrates on Formula E duties with the Opel-backed sister brand.
Peugeot indicated that Shwartzman will pilot the 9X8 across several test sessions later this year in preparation for the 2027 campaign.

Peugeot team principal Emmanuel Esnault described Shwartzman as “undeniably one of the most promising talents of his generation,” adding that “his natural speed, adaptability and maturity make him an ideal fit for our project.”
He continued: “He is already fully involved in the preparation of our 2027 program and will play an important role in the team’s future.”

Alongside Shwartzman, Peugeot is set to promote current reserve driver Alex Quinn to a race seat, while Jean-Eric Vergne is also poised to return to the French marque’s race line-up after spending the 2026 season focusing on his Formula E campaign.
