Honda’s MotoGP Team Principal Alberto Puig Speaks About Brazilian Rider Diogo Moreira

The head of Honda’s MotoGP team, Alberto Puig, has shared his thoughts on the Brazilian rider Diogo Moreira, who will be joining the LCR Honda team in 2026 after signing a three-year contract directly with the Japanese manufacturer. According to Puig, Moreira, who is currently leading the Moto2 championship by nine points, perfectly embodies the manufacturer’s philosophy.

“We first noticed him when he was competing in the Moto3,” Puig said in an interview with Autosport.

“This year, the opportunity to sign him arose. Diogo is a rising star. He’s very fast, with a real chance of winning the Moto2 championship – and he fits perfectly into Honda’s philosophy.”

“During one of our meetings with him, his agent, and his coach, I think he understood that our project could be interesting for him. He’s young, very promising, talented, and technically exceptional.”

“For all these reasons, we offered him a long-term contract, namely a three-year deal.”

Moreira has won three races this season and has a chance to become the champion at the Portuguese GP this weekend if he scores 17 points more than Manuel Gonzalez, the current vice-leader.
