Marco Bezzecchi was the fastest rider in the opening free practice for the Indonesian Grand Prix, the 17th round of the 2026 MotoGP season. In the session held in the early hours of Friday (9) at the Mandalika Circuit, the Aprilia rider posted on his best lap a time of 1 minute 30.132 seconds, a mark no rival could beat.
The second position went to Marc Márquez, the Ducati rider who ended up being 0.237 seconds slower than Bezzecchi after his lap in the closing moments of the session. Championship leader Jorge Martín, on an Aprilia, was the third fastest, followed by Pedro Acosta, fourth on KTM. The group of the top five also included Raúl Fernández, aboard a Trackhouse Aprilia.

Franco Morbidelli, from VR46, placed his Ducati in sixth position, followed by his teammate Fabio Di Giannantonio in seventh. Fabio Quartararo, aboard a Yamaha, finished eighth, while Fermín Aldeguer of Gresini was ninth. Álex Márquez, Aldeguer’s teammate in the satellite Ducati outfit, completed the top ten. Diogo Moreira finished 20th with LCR’s Honda.
The session featured several crashes. At 14 minutes into the training, Moreira fell from the LCR-prepared Honda and had to switch to the spare bike to continue. Then, at 25 minutes, Ai Ogura crashed with the Trackhouse Aprilia in the section of turns 7, 8 and 9 at the Mandalika circuit. Later, at 30 minutes, Aldeguer went down with the Gresini Ducati at turn 1.
From 4:00 a.m., the session that will determine the ten riders who advance directly to Q2 will take place. The Indonesian MotoGP Grand Prix will be contested on Sunday, with the race starting at 4:00 a.m.
