Raul Fernandez, the Spanish rider, achieved his first victory in the MotoGP this Sunday morning, at the Australian Grand Prix. The rider benefited from the double long lap penalty imposed on Marco Bezzecchi, who had taken out Marc Márquez from the Indonesian Grand Prix two weeks prior. The Italian served his penalty in the first seven laps, but managed to return to fifth place.
From then on, the rider – who had won the sprint on Saturday – was unable to recover in time and only managed to secure third place after overtaking Pedro Acosta and Álex Márquez in the final laps.
As a result, Fernandez overtook Pedro Acosta in the early stages of the race and maintained a good advantage to win his first career race – the first for Trackhouse Aprilia and the first in history for an Aprilia satellite team. Fabio di Giannantonio finished in second place.
Álex Márquez finished fourth, with Pedro Acosta closing out the top 5.
Luca Marini was the first Honda rider to cross the line, finishing sixth, while Álex Rins finished seventh on the first Yamaha, and Brad Binder finished eighth. The top 10 was completed by Enea Bastianini and Pol Espargaró. Pole position holder, Fabio Quartararo, finished 11th.
Francesco Bagnaia had another day to forget, abandoning the race while in 13th place.
The next stage will take place next week, with the Malaysian Grand Prix.
