McLaren to Unveil New Hypercar at Goodwood Festival of Speed

July 10, 2026

McLaren is set to unveil its 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship Hypercar to the public during this weekend’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The MCL-HY will participate in a sequence of demonstration runs at the renowned British event on Friday and Saturday, with two laps up the hill planned for each day.

On the entry list to pilot the car are McLaren’s Formula 1 World Champion Lando Norris and Laurens Vanthoor, who is one of two confirmed drivers for the Dallara-built LMDh car’s maiden WEC campaign so far alongside Mikkel Jensen.

The first run is slated for 11:00 local time on Friday.

Team principal James Barclay said: “Goodwood Festival of Speed stands as the finest car show on the planet, so it made sense to keep this on our radar. Yet the truth is, the project is still in the early stages of testing, so it was initially only tentatively penciled in.

“Nevertheless, our squad has performed exceptionally, meeting every target on- and off-track, which led to a late decision to divert the MCL-HY to the event for two of the four days and share it with the enthusiastic motorsport fans in attendance.

“The appetite for sports car racing in the UK is enormous, and we’re thrilled that Goodwood provides a platform to celebrate this. UK-based fans who crave more will also now have the chance to see the Hypercar class in action at Silverstone, as the WEC returns to the Home of British Motorsport next year.”

“Thank you to everyone who has helped make it possible and to The Duke who was keen for us to bring it to Goodwood – we cannot wait to present this exciting new Le Mans challenger to the British public in person.”

McLaren’s Goodwood appearance comes after full-scale testing at Imola and Magny-Cours in recent weeks, with development drivers Gregoire Saucy and Richard Verschoor, as well as United Autosports regular Ben Hanley, having also been at the wheel.
