Jenson Button has officially hung up his helmet. After competing in the final round of the 2025 Endurance World Championship last weekend, the 45-year-old driver has left the world of motorsports for good.
Prior to the start of the WEC’s decision with the 8 Hours of Bahrain, the competitor revealed that he would be retiring at the end of 2025.
Throughout his career, he has driven in Formula 1 for teams such as Williams, BAR, Honda, Brawn GP, where he was champion in the 2009 season, and concluded his stint in the category in 2016 with McLaren.
Additionally, he has had occasional participation in the Super GT, rally, and NASCAR. In 2024, he made his full-time return to the tracks by signing with Jota in the WEC and has a second-place finish in the 6 Hours of São Paulo in 2025 as his best result.
Talking about his last professional race, Jenson revealed that he was more emotional than when he left F1.
“This last race was very exciting. I’ve had a long career in professional motorsports and I’m still enjoying it and happy to be able to give it my all and be competitive – even at 45 years old. But life has gotten very busy,” he evaluated.
“When I retired from Formula 1, it was a different feeling; it was excitement because I knew I had many other categories in motorsports where I would have the chance to compete. This moment was more emotional, sadder, but also great, as it allows me to reflect.”
