Driving for MP Motorsport, Oliver Goethe secured the pole position for the main race of the penultimate stage of the 2025 Formula 2 season. In the qualifying session held on Friday (28) at the Lusail circuit in Qatar, the driver of car number 5 recorded a time of 1min36s115 in his best lap, and will start from the front on Sunday.
The second position on the grid went to Leonardo Fornaroli, the championship leader and Invicta driver, who was surpassed by Goethe by 0s040. Victor Martins, driving an ART Grand Prix car, took third place, and will share the second row on Sunday with Roman Stanek, who finished fourth with Invicta. Alexander Dunne, driving a Rodin car, finished fifth.
Sebastian Montoya, a Prema driver, secured the sixth position on the grid, while Nikola Tsolov, from Campos Racing, finished seventh, followed by Rafael Villagómez, eighth with Van Amersfoort. Joshua Durksen, driving an AIX Racing car, and Richard Verschoor, from MP Motorsport, completed the top-10, with the Dutchman starting from the honors position in the Sprint.
Among the title contenders, Jak Crawford and Luke Browning will have to make recovery drives. The vice-champion and DAMS driver will start from 15th place in both weekend races, while the third-placed driver in the overall standings will start from 18th in both events with a Hitech car.
After qualifying, the Formula 2 schedule continues in Qatar on Saturday (29) with the Sprint, starting at 13:20. The main race takes place on Sunday at 9:00.
