Former Pilot Antolín González Sentenced for Father’s Murder in High-Profile Case

November 12, 2025

The former Formula 3 driver, Antolín González, known for being considered ‘the next Fernando Alonso’, is facing a prison sentence of several years after confessing to the murder of his father. At 23 years old, González, who was seen as a great promise in motorsport, was involved in a tragic episode that resulted in the death of his father, a renowned businessman, in a confrontation during a period of great family turmoil.

According to González’s lawyers, the young driver was experiencing a psychotic episode at the time of the crime. The lawyer stated that González does not remember all the details of the incident, but described what led to the tragedy: “He had a psychotic episode when he saw his father with a machete. They were in a warehouse, and the situation escalated when Antolín’s father threatened him with the weapon,” the lawyer told the Spanish newspaper, El Español. The confrontation occurred after a fight between the young man’s parents, with the father trying to attack his son with the machete, which led González to react with stab wounds to his father’s chest and neck, resulting in his death.

González, who was considered one of the greatest talents in Formula 3 at the age of fifteen, was mentored by former F1 driver Pedro de la Rosa. However, his promising career was interrupted by financial issues and family problems, especially after his parents’ divorce, which left him in a difficult situation.

González’s defense does not argue legitimate self-defense, but seeks a reduction in sentence, hoping that the young driver will receive a milder sentence of five years in prison, instead of a possible ten-year sentence. González’s mother continues to support her son, stating that he acted to protect her, believing that she would have been the victim if her son had not intervened.

The case continues to be discussed in court, and the final sentence is expected to be announced soon, but the tragedy has marked the life of a young man who was once seen as a promise in motorsport, and now faces a very uncertain future.
