Freddie Slater won this Sunday the main race of the seventh round of Formula 3, held at the Hungaroring circuit in Hungary. The Trident driver overtook pole-sitter Tuukka Taponen early in the Sunday race (26) and withstood late pressure from Ugo Ugochukwu to clinch the victory.
Ugochukwu finished in second place, the Campos Racing driver who pressed hard but could not overtake Slater. Brando Badoer, driving for Rodin Motorsport, crossed the line in third to complete the podium. Mattia Colnaghi, of MP Motorsport, finished fourth, while Théophile Nael, from Campos Racing, completed the top five.
Tuukka Taponen finished the race in sixth place with MP Motorsport, ending just ahead of Ernesto Rivera, seventh with another Campos Racing car. James Wharton, for Prema, crossed the line eighth, followed by his teammate Louis Sharp. Christian Ho, of Rodin Motorsport, completed the top ten.
Pedro Clerot climbed 11 positions and finished 16th in a Rodin Motorsport car. Fernando Barrichello, who had earned his first points of the season in the Hungary Sprint race, retired from this morning’s race. The Brazilian driver for AIX Racing was running 12th when he tried, unsuccessfully, a double overtaking maneuver, colliding and damaging the suspension.
The Formula 3 calendar takes a long break for holidays and returns on September 4, 5 and 6 for the penultimate round, scheduled at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in Italy.
