The Brazilian Rafael Câmara closed the Spa-Francorchamps round as the standout figure of the Formula 2 weekend, after securing pole position, winning the main race, and also setting the fastest lap with Invicta Racing.
“I think it was a good Sunday overall. We were able to execute all the things well. I believe it was a job very well done by all of us on the team. They did a good job throughout the entire Sunday,” Rafa says, who reaches his fifth Spa victory in his career, including all the junior single-seater categories.
Rafa started from pole, but at no moment was his life made easy by the rivals, needing to win duels on track with Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, Nikola Tsolov and Noel Leon, showing solid decision-making on restarts after the safety cars and, above all, a strong pace after the red flag.
“A lot of things happened, with the red flag, we stopped (in the pits) and accelerated again. We had a bit of doubt about what would happen, because the other rivals hadn’t stopped and we needed to advance. But we were very happy with what we did today and I am sure that we stayed focused on our work and were stronger,” Câmara adds, who is part of the Ferrari Driver Academy.
With the sixth place in the Sprint on Saturday, in addition to the points for victory, pole and fastest lap, Câmara was the top points scorer of the weekend and reaches 125 points, narrowing the gap to the two leaders in the table and remaining in third place overall.
The next round of F2 will be contested this coming weekend at the Hungaroring, in Hungary, from July 24 to 26.
