F2: Goethe Leads Free Practice in Austria as Câmara Cracks Top 5

Oliver Goethe was the fastest driver in the only free practice session for the sixth round of the 2026 Formula 2 season, held on Friday morning (26) at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. The German, driving for MP Motorsport, clocked his best lap at 1:16.978, topping the session’s timing sheet in Spielberg.

The second position went to Nikola Tsolov, Campos Racing driver who finished 0.070s behind Goethe. Alexander Dunne, representing Rodin Motorsport, secured third place, just ahead of Noel León, who finished fourth in Campos Racing’s other car. The Barcelona winner, Rafael Câmara, completed the top five with Invicta Racing.

Leading the championship, Gabriele Mini finished sixth for MP Motorsport, just ahead of Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak, seventh for ART Grand Prix. Rafael Villagómez, in a Van Amersfoort racer, ended eighth, while Colton Herta of Hitech completed the session in ninth. Kush Maini, also with ART Grand Prix, was tenth.

Outside the top ten in this morning’s session was Laurens van Hoepen, who registered the 12th-fastest time with a Trident entry. The other Brazilian on the main Formula 2 grid, Emmo Fittipaldi, ended the session 14th in an AIX Racing car.

The session also featured a red flag caused by Cian Shields. The AIX Racing driver went off onto the gravel at the circuit in Spielberg on the exit of Turn 6, spun the car and came to a halt shortly after. The incident brought the session to a halt.
