The Trident driver led the early stages of the race, was overtaken by Sebastian Montoya, but regained the lead on the last of the 28 laps to secure the victory, his first in the Formula 2 category, the stepping stone to Formula 1.

Second place went to Montoya, the Prema driver who finished just over a second behind Bennett. The incidents also involved Oliver Goethe and Emmo Fittipaldi, who retired along with the Thai driver from ART Grand Prix, and Dino Beganovic.

On lap 21, the Virtual Safety Car was activated after Colton Herta’s car developed a problem, forcing the American to stop on track. Shortly afterwards the race was resumed.
