Swedish driver Dino Beganovic was the fastest in the only free practice session for the ninth round of the Formula 2 championship, held at the Hungaroring circuit in Hungary. In the session conducted on Friday morning (24), the DAMS driver posted his best lap in 1:30.720, not being surpassed by his rivals.
The runner-up was Gabriele Mini, the championship vice-leader and MP Motorsport driver, who finished just 0.015 seconds behind Beganovic. Nico Varrone, from Van Amersfoort, ended the session with the third-fastest time, followed by Nikola Tsolov, fourth for Campos Racing and the championship leader. Brazilian Rafael Câmara finished fifth for Invicta Racing.
Alexander Dunne, driving for Rodin Motorsport, finished the session sixth-fastest, followed by Oliver Goethe, seventh for MP Motorsport. Martinius, in the other Rodin car, was eighth, ahead of Roman Bilinski, ninth for DAMS. Laurens van Hoepen, of Trident, completed the top-10. Emmo Fittipaldi ended in 20th place.
The session featured a red-flag interruption. Mari Boya, in a Prema car, went straight at the first corner of the circuit near Budapest and crashed into the tire barriers. The session was resumed shortly afterward.
From 10:55, the qualifying will determine the starting grid for the weekend’s two races. The Sprint is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, while the main race begins at 6:25 a.m.
