Wednesday’s Formula 1 scene was filled with rumors about Max Verstappen, FIA technical discussions, and strong statements from Gabriel Bortoleto. The day also brought news from Ferrari in Madrid and new details about the relationship between Verstappen and Christian Horner.
Verstappen’s future returned to the forefront after the British Grand Prix. Backstage whispers point to the four-time champion growing closer to McLaren, although neither side has confirmed the information. The speculation gained momentum following a frustrating Silverstone weekend for the Dutch driver, marked by a retirement and dissatisfaction with Red Bull.
The FIA also stirred the headlines by studying the creation of an independent engine for customer teams in the upcoming regulatory cycle. The plan aims to reduce manufacturers’ influence over the teams receiving power units and is part of discussions for 2030 or 2031, which also include V8 engines and even the possibility of refueling returning.
Bortoleto, for his part, defended the current F1 regulations and pushed back against criticisms from other drivers. After scoring eighth place at the British GP for Audi, the Brazilian stated that the sport has not lost its magic and that the drivers must adapt to the cars of the new generation.

Ferrari also occupied the spotlight. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will be the first to complete laps aboard a current-spec F1 car at Madring, the new Madrid circuit for the Spanish Grand Prix, during a team filming session.

Verstappen also revealed that he maintains near-weekly conversations with Horner since the departure of Red Bull’s former chief. The Briton reappeared in the Silverstone paddock and remains connected to potential roles in Formula 1.
