F1 Today: Verstappen Back in the Spotlight

June 17, 2026

Wednesday in Formula 1 unfolded with new chapters involving Max Verstappen, Red Bull, and Mercedes, while Rafael Câmara returned to the spotlight with Ferrari. The day also brought important developments regarding Mercedes’ request for a review after the Monaco Grand Prix.

In the realm of young talents, Câmara piloted the SF-25 from Ferrari in a test with an older car conducted in Barcelona. As a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, the Brazilian wore the number 39 during the session and is enjoying a strong run in Formula 2, where he sits third in the standings after winning the main race of the Spanish round.

Off the track, the FIA set Saturday, June 20, as the date for the hearing on Mercedes’ request for the Right of Review following the Monaco GP. The team challenges decisions that affected George Russell’s result, but, according to the report, it does not aim to strip Pierre Gasly of third place, who recovered the podium after Alpine’s appeal.

Red Bull also surfaced on several fronts. Nico Rosberg assessed that the team still feels the departure of Adrian Newey, particularly due to the difficulty in keeping pace with the development rate of rivals. Meanwhile, Isack Hadjar called for changes to the starting procedures after losing several positions at the start of the Barcelona Grand Prix, though he managed to recover to sixth place.

The future of Verstappen returned to the speculation stage. Ralf Schumacher stated that Mercedes had made an offer to the four-time world champion, but that the proposal would not be financially attractive. For the former driver, the rise of Kimi Antonelli might explain Toto Wolff’s caution, given that a pairing with Verstappen could create a difficult internal environment within the team.
