F1 Today: Rain at Interlagos, Leclerc in Focus and Bortoleto Under Spotlight in Brazilian Grand Prix

November 5, 2025

The week of the São Paulo GP began with excitement both on and off the Formula 1 tracks. The forecast of rain in Interlagos promises to shake up the title dispute, while the news brought significant behind-the-scenes stories: Charles Leclerc announced his engagement, Max Verstappen visited Brasília, and Gabriel Bortoleto became the center of attention with Brazil’s return to the grid.

If it rains on Saturday, the classification and Sprint may become a mixed bag. The projection indicates a 90% chance of precipitation on the second day of activities, with temperatures around 21°C, while Friday shows a 40% chance and Sunday has a more favorable scenario, close to 20%. At Interlagos, a cold track and changing conditions every minute tend to amplify errors and redraw strategies.

Behind the scenes, Leclerc used social media to announce his engagement to Alexandra Saint Mleux, and Verstappen made an emotional stop in Brazil before Interlagos: the four-time champion visited the Autódromo de Brasília alongside Nelson Piquet and praised the track. This move stirs up the crowd on the eve of the São Paulo stage and helps to heat up the weekend’s atmosphere.

In an attempt to turn things around, Oscar Piastri tries to break an uncomfortable mark in São Paulo. The Australian had discreet results in his last two visits to Interlagos (between classifications outside the top 5 and unimpressive races) and arrives under pressure from the direct dispute with Lando Norris in the title fight. Any lost tenth in the timing phases can cost a lot on the grid here.

Brazilian expectations are centered on Gabriel Bortoleto. For journalist Mari Becker, the debut of the Sauber driver at Interlagos is “the beginning of a nice story,” regardless of the result. The point is symbolic: after eight years, the country has a representative at home again, and Bortoleto has already shown consistency by scoring points in his rookie year.

From within the paddock, the reading on the rookie is also one of maturity. Jonathan Wheatley, an experienced figure on the pit wall, highlighted the way Bortoleto has been conducting his rookie season, praising his evolution and decision-making. On a weekend with a Sprint and a high probability of variable track conditions, this can make a difference in tire management and critical pit stops.

Therefore, the weather enters as a character in the script. Interlagos with rain tends to reduce differences in lap times, create space for surprises, and force alternative tire plans — especially if the Sprint takes place on a wet track and the classification is on the limit between intermediate and slick tires. The tendency is for teams to divide their strategies to cover opposing scenarios.

Between glamour and sports pressure, the grid arrives in São Paulo with plenty of ingredients: Leclerc on a high note off the tracks, Verstappen accelerating the heating up with the Brazilian crowd, Piastri on a mission to react, and Bortoleto living the most special week of his career. If the rain enters the scene, all this can gain an even more unpredictable tone at the Autódromo de Interlagos.
